Camping in Bruce County

If you're looking for a beautiful, peaceful and fun place to travel, I have just the area for you! Throughout this post, there will be links to places of interest...there's something for everyone along the West Coast of Lake Huron.

I'll start by saying that I grew up in Bruce County and it still keeps me in awe most days. Lake Huron is a massive lake that most tourists confuse with an ocean. The sunsets are world renowned and if you were to google a Lake Huron Sunset, you too would be in awe of it's beauty.

There are several great Provincial Parks along the coast of Lake Huron, which allows campers to become adventurers. Loads of trails for hiking or biking, stunning beaches that seem to go on forever and some of the friendliest people I've ever had the pleasure to meet.

Inverhuron Provincial Park has been a favourite place of mine to go for a Sunday Funday hike with my partner. The trail system throughout this park seems to satisfy every ability. The beach, the sand dunes, the old cemetery, the wildlife, the cabins and the campsites, give you such a wide variety of things to do, your day will be spent immersing yourself in fun!

MacGregor Point Provincial Park is just North up the coast a little and is as equally beautiful. Offering trails for biking and hiking, campsites with yurts and campsites without, incredible beaches and wildlife that won't disappoint!
Yurt at MacGregor Point

Winter camping has become such a trendy thing to do and MacGregor Point has made sure your comfort isn't compromised. While 3 season camping in your own travel trailer is most ideal for the adventurous family, taking a winter vacation to a Provincial Park Yurt, is something you won't forget! The only downside to yurt camping is that you need to plan for the future. These yurts get booked as soon as reservations open at the beginning of the year.

It doesn't seem to matter what season it is, our local Provincial Parks don't lack in things to do! Very close to 2 towns, Kincardine and Port Elgin, a few hours checking out the shops or sitting on a patio for drinks and some food, there is nothing that will disappoint about the location of these 2 local Parks.

Now I'll take some time and to tell you about a couple local campgrounds.

The first one is Fisherman's Cove. It sits on a small inland lake just East of Kincardine. This campground offers just about everything a camping family could want! A 200 acre spring fed lake, a rec centre and clubhouse, 2 indoor pools and whirlpools, 5 playgrounds, a sweet and treat shop, a groomed beach with inflatable water toys, laundry facilities, pike and bass fishing as well as family programs and children's activities. With over 500 serviced sites over a 250 acre property, this is a great spot to set up home for a week's vacation.

The daily fun possibilities are endless here at the Cove. It's a place that many have chosen to call home for the entire season. With seasonal sites, it's like having a cottage at a summer resort. Getting to know your neighbours and building friendships with likeminded people is worth it's weight in gold these days!
Hosting family reunions, spending time with the grandkids or simply getting away from the hustle and bustle of a hectic life, Fisherman's Cove provides a peaceful safe haven for all.

The lake itself, has provided many people with a fish or two for a suppertime fish fry. There's no better feeling for a fisherman of any caliber to have earned his dinner. Nourishment for both the body and soul.

The weather is of no consequence to the guests of Fisherman's Cove. The Rec centre, clubhouse, indoor pools, spas and sweet shop will be buzzing with activity if it's not ideal for outdoor adventures.

I can't say enough about this family owned and operated campground. It's quite obvious upon entering the gates how much pride is taken in the upkeep of this entire park as well as the friendly staff that are quick to take care of even the smallest of issues brought to their attention.

The last campground that I'd like to highlight for you today is  Green Acres Campground & RV Park Nestled just south of Kincardine, this family owned and operated campground is just a few minutes walk to the shore of Lake Huron. Green Acres is a 50 acre slice of heaven. With a playground and an outdoor heated saltwater pool as well as direct access to hiking trails, there's no shortage of outdoor fun for both adults and children alike. Shuffleboard, volleyball and basketball courts and horseshoe pits are a hit with most guests.

With so many scheduled activities, the kiddos will be kept busy with smiles on their faces everyday! If it's a perfect beach day, take the family just down the road to a beautiful sandy expanse of one of my favourite beaches in the area. Spending the day with sand between your toes, having a beach BBQ picnic or floating around in the crystal clear water on a paddle board is quite honestly a fantastic way to waste a day.

With oversized, heavily treed sites, privacy and ample outdoor, onsite living space is a huge win for the comfort of guests.

It doesn't surprise me at all when people tell me they first came to the Kincardine area 15 years ago on a camping trip and have come back every year since. They fall in love with so many things about this area. Whether it's the Scottish Pipe Band that closes down the main street of Kincardine every Saturday night for a parade, the spectacular sunsets, the slow paced and peaceful atmosphere of the towns in the area or simply the kind-hearted people they meet along the way, this little patch of Bruce County is a destination, not a 'just passing through' pitstop.

As an RV dealership, we have had the pleasure of meeting so many people that now have Bruce County firmly locked in their hearts. They make a point of stopping in to say hello every time they're in the area and we are ever grateful!

If you're in the market for an RV, a golf cart for the campground or looking for anything else we have in our inventory, please contact us or stop in at Pierson Motors Inc and let us welcome you to the Bruce County family.
